Share Our Vision

All mosques, Islamic centres are non-profit organisations, as opposed to for-profit organisations (also known as businesses), whether they recognise this or not. With for-profit organisations the matter is crystal clear.

They exist to maximise the bottom line figure i.e. profit. So what is the bottom line for a non-profit organisation when it doesn’t have a bottom line? Non-profit organisations exist for the sake of their vision. They exist to make a difference in society. They exist to make a difference in the individual. They exist to serve you.

It has been observed by management writers, such as Drucker, that the most successful non-profits have a clear goal or vision. The vision is invariably a simple and clear statement that embodies the values of the organisation and what matters to it.

IB has grown at an astonishing rate, in particular in the last twelve months. This can only be attributed to the help of Allah, the Most High, and then the sincerity and dedication of those who believe in and work for our vision. Our last head count shows that twenty-eight people make specific contributions to IB’s work every single week. This includes everyone from the brother who cleans the centre every Friday to the sister who teaches Qur’an on Tuesdays. (This figure does not include the many others who provide invaluable logistical on-day support at large one-off events). Almost all are unpaid, including everyone holding any sort of management position. Further growth depends on the clarity of our vision. To this end we are pleased to unveil our vision to the community.

“To Launch a 21st Century English Language Islamic Centre in Bradford For All.”

The definition of our vision was a consultative process that involved a wide cross-section of our key supporters, who ultimately define what we stand for. We believe the vision is a winning combination; clear, appealing and achievable.

We have started to promote our vision in earnest. In the centre one cannot miss the large banner, above the mimbar, proudly displaying the vision. Similarly, on our website the vision banner is positioned on the homepage for maximum impact. Clicking the banner reveals an impressive flash presentation showing that we mean business. Furthermore we have recently appointed a dedicated Vision Manager who will spearhead our efforts to convert the vision into specifics.

This is the first of a series of short, thought provoking articles that will spell out IB’s vision, blow by blow, such that you too may be of those who share our vision.

And All Praise is to Allah Lord of the Worlds.
